    Map Empire of Karmoth

Wow, I didn't think I could do a map this fast. I started it yesterday morning and just finished it. I'm not sure why I started it, I saw JonPin's mapmaking process video and just decided to start a random map.

And voila, this is how it turned out.

What a pretty map! I love the tilted perspective, the colour scheme, and how Tenru Watch island sits right in the center of the compass lines. I also really like how the compass lines are messy/sketchy. Don't think I've seen them drawn like that before, and it looks great!

If I had to be nit-picky about anything, it would be that the font is a tad bit plain. But other than that, everything looks wonderful. Beautiful work!

That's fantastic Josiah ! Composition, linework and what a color theme ! It's a gem ! The only thing I can think of as a small critic would be that this style would have worked well with a little more ... substance, for lack of a better word, for the coastline. It lacks a little bit of depth as is. But it's a tiny detail, the map is really amazing !

And the backstory of the different location is the cherry on top of the cake

I agree with Neyjour. This is a very lovely map indeed. The colors remind me a little of a watercolor piece. Impressive work for having been accomplished in such a short period of time.

I'd also agree with Neyjour about the font though. It doesn't seem to compliment the style/subject matter of the map. Dido for those end-border caps, I think hand drawn border caps would have been more in keeping with the overall style. Otherwise great work.

    Cheers,

    Thanks so much Neyjour!
I thought those compass lines looked too crisp and digital so I added a glass effect and I loved how it worked.
Hmm, I always have trouble with font. Thanks for the feedback.

    Thanks Thomas!
In what way more substance? Not really sure what you mean.

    Thanks Arsheesh.
Yeah, I definitely think the border caps need to go.
I didn't spend a lot of time on the text and other finishing touches, I was trying to finish it up quickly.

And thanks for the rep everyone!

Sorry my word weren't conveying what I meant. Your coastline is a simple line, no "earth squiggles" and no "sea squiggles" like Caenwyr would say It could be fine if you used some shading or some light do distinguish land and see, to smooth the transition and give the impression that the coastline is more than just a line on paper. It stands out because you did a wonderful job to bring your landscape to life everywhere else. In some places, I dunno if it's the background or if you added shadows, but your islands seem to hover above the sea. Here's an example :

I guess you could really easily give the coast more depth.

Okay! Thanks so much for the feedback.
Now I understand what you mean. I don't want to turn this into a WIP thread but I might just fix a few things.
Those shadows are my fault, I was just playing around and I forgot to get rid of them.
Thanks again for the detailed feedback. I'll try and add some "earth squiggles" and maybe some "sea squiggles" and see how it looks.

Excellent map Josiah! Good perspective and colors, very well done elements.
Those are minor problems, but I agree with Thomrey about the coastlines and with arsheesh about the border caps.

It looks really nice Josiah. I agree with the feedback the others have given, but since this was really just a practice map, it's a fantastic effort. I find I learn something new from every map I attempt (even the rubbish ones!) and to be able to turn out something this attractive in a day is pretty phenomenal result, especially when you're taking on commissions. I really like the colouring on the islands and in the forests. Not sure if I can rep, but I'll try.
