I think the version without the colors is better.

The color choices in the second version are a little too harsh and saturated. I think it could work well colored, but with more subtle color choices, perhaps in a light colored-pencil infill. The current colors look like neon markers.

The ocean texture is also very distracting and uneven. Perhaps try a colored-pencil wave pattern and duplicate that digitally, then fade it out so that it's darkest near the coastline.

I actually like the second one better, but I do agree that some of the colors might be better if they were muted somewhat. That's mainly the border(?) colors. They could be toned down a bit and it would be fantastic!

I like the textures of the second map better, I think is what I'm trying to say.
