Question Video game level design section for the guild?

I was curious because of my challenge entry whether or not there'd be any interest in this sort of thing. I know there's probably not a lot of members here that currently are into level design but perhaps if I stick to my previous concept of "if you build it they will come" we might actually get a new genre of folks hanging out here. I have done level design for first person shooters and action rpg computer games. I know there's a lot of thought and planning that has to go into it. What do you all think of adding a sub forum for game level design discussion?

I would love to learn from the people who would come to it - maybe have a go at it someday myself

Well I didn't actually design any levels, but I did create maps of existing levels. In 2014 I had a commission with Brady Games Publishing to create all the multi-player maps for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Strategy Guide. So I know what a typical first-person shooter level might look like. Interestingly while on that commission, there was another cartographic illustrator on the team. The writers were all serious game geeks, but me and other illustrator never play...

Here's the third multi-player map for that game - this was a mine at a Mayan ruin.

I did see a list of the most popular forum sites and all the big ones are games related. I think mostly about playing but a lot of people do mods for the PC versions of games. Really, it should be right up our street. Level design is basically 3D mapping.

It sounds like more of a group than a forum topic but you never know how it might pan out.

Problem with a group is that it doesn't have any drive-by visibility. It would need to be up front to be noticed by anyone.

Or even Godot. It's nice when an engine is upfront about how slow it is. You're always "waiting for Godot".

I like the idea. I used to do level mods for Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter and a few others.
Did 3d modeling and built assets before. I'd enjoy it.
It would take some promoting to get it noticed, as most levels are game or engine specific, but is a good fit, I think.

I for one appreciate good level design, but I figured it was already covered under 3D mapping and objects forum no? There are of course other issues such as sharing the map itself since it is a 3d object and not a 2d representation of a 3d space. But those are quibbles for people to worry about themselves I suppose.
