Another great map Thomrey! Love the mountains, but the forest and the ground is a bit hard to tell apart.
The writing adds some extra depth to the map and creepiness to the island. Although I'm not so fond of the red text.
Great job!
Here's another hand drawn map.
Tried to work on perspective and terrain filling. Need practice. I added some infos about the island and a little backstory so that people can use it.

Thanks Josiah ! You're absolutely right about everything critic wise. It's a quick map and the terrains need rework, forest and ground. I'm always unsure when I lay a terrain with few strokes and tend to overdo it. It's lazy work and I'll do better next time and try to take time to do it correctly. About the red, it's really agressive and doesn't fit the era at all. A dark red would be great. Next time, I'll multiply the heck out of it. Thanks for taking some time to look at it pal !
You are more than right, I was really too quick at posting this ! Could an admin move it to the regional mapping section under the WIP tag, please ?
Moved for you
"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams"
On your mountains right across from your red type "strange lights" - looks like the terrain is higher on the left of the mountain side and lower to the sea, which creates a nice stepped terrain feel, unfornatuely the sea is on the higher plain as well as the lower creating a slight change in sea level elevation.
Hope this make since, I know this is a practice map, so I thought I'd call it out - It's a nice effect, where you are trying to step away from the shoreline to higher elevations, I've been trying to do that on my maps, where I make one leg of the mountain longer on one side.
I like it a lot ! The drawing and the story.. (it makes me think of Shackelton). I wouldn't change anything.
But if you want to do something more, maybe you could try to "damage" a bit the paper, make it look more as if it spent a long time in the bottle ?
Just an idea...
Love the lineart, the mountains especially.
For the wider parts of the rivers, I would suggest using two lines rather than one fat line.
Thanks a lot ChickPea !
@ Snodsy : I don't really catch what you mean. If you could show me graphically, it would be very nice. Maybe I can adjust it with the mountains drawing or the terrain filling ...
@ - JO - : the finished map will have a worn appearance. And there'll be two maps ! One isometric faithful to the grounds, the other top-down, drawn by the strafed men on the island (the worn one). People on the island who suffered a wreckage couldn't draw a map like this one.
@ Blaidd : I'll do that ! I'll up the resolution and try to lay the whole terrain on the sea and play with colors to show the depth of water. I've wanted to do something like this with rivers for a long time.
These type of maps certainly tell a story, on a whole another level than others. I love the simple label of "Sunken ship (ours)" - you can just feel the despair
And I do adore those mountains, and the lineart in general. Looking forward to seeing this finished!
