    Map Kalidar

My second map, still using brushes for the trees and mountains. I've learned lots since my first map though, especially regarding more effective use of layers. I also tried making a compass rose (that turned out rather minimal) and sea-lines or whatever they are called, so I'm happy with it as an improvement, even though I want to learn more, like how to make neat borders.

As for the background, this is the island the new world tree was planted on in the warcraft universe. There is so little lore around it that I based a roleplay character on it, with a story explaining how she lost her home. Naturally that needed a map to go along with it. This is the state of the island (as I see it) just before a massive tree consumes the entire land and gets corrupted in the process.

    Nice work on this.

If I had to offer up some criticism, I'd say you could probably have gotten away with a few less trees in the middle. There are such a lot of them, and they make the map look really busy without adding much. But that aside, everything looks good. A border would have been nice and you could also consider including a scale, so that people know what sort of area is shown.

Thanks, criticism is always welcome! I haven't started learning about borders yet, but I might still add a scale, that's a good idea!

I agree with everything Chickpea said. I like the colours, and textures you've chosen, there really nice. I really like how the textures looks on the water. My only one gripe about it, something that stands out to me is the coast. I find the line looks really harsh against the subtle antique looking colours, and textures. I think it would look loads better if the coast line was quite a bit thinner, and maybe even a darker brown instead of solid black.
