Empire of Dor-en-Sann historic map
This is a historic map of the island continent of Anasthias in my world of Helevos. It's a political map showing nations as they were approximately 1100 years ago before an event called the "Great Collapse", caused by a combination of climate change, drop in sea level, famine, war and political and economic disintegration which overturned all the nations depicted here. The modern nations of Anasthias grew from the ashes of the Great Collapse.
The Empire of Dor-en-Sann was the biggest and most influential empire in history, but a "union of unions" more akin to the Holy Roman Empire than the Roman Empire - united by trade and religion more than armies. In its dying days the Empire fought with its eastern rival, Saloya, over dominance of the strategic kingdom of Emanuné (and the city of Vahltor). Distracted and weakened by this struggle, both ignored the growth of raiders on their borders, who eventually plundered and burned their great nations, turning ancient cities to dust.

Excellent! Quite harmonious map and great illustrations indeed. A probable mistake, but the one near the Palatinate is under the shadowed border layer.
I love the one near Gikrik, a frog man?
Yes the Gikrik are mythical frog-men - I haven't decided myself whether they really exist, or are just folklore! The darker brown areas of the continent are terra incognita to the Civilised World; they imagine all kinds of monsters out there in the wilds, and are half right in doing so.
The shadowing around Saloya, and around the Empire, is meant to indicate how they overshadow bordering nations. Saloya was a stronger threat in this era so the shadow is a little darker. The Saloyan Palatine is the man with the spear and crown, facing westward having just taken Emanuné from Ensanni control - little realising the Junda raiding ships are at their back, about to sack their homeland.

(I am confused by the scale in the corner though, I'm assuming that is from edged to edge of the map?)
Perhaps I need to make that clearer - each border block is 1000 km. It's a big equatorial continent, similar in size to North Africa but on a cooler planet.
