    Map Minotaur Fortress

Re-post of my August 2016 entry.

It's a far future setting, where Minotaurs are relics of ancient genetic programs and are now known as traders and warriors. The blue under the stone is an ancient structure. It was once the company HQ of an trans-stellar company. The air beacon on top, used by the Minotaurs to signal danger or for celebrations (different colours), is actually the old company logo, a holographic advertisement.

    Done in Sketch-Up and PS.

    Can't rep you!

But it's a wonderful piece, and the mix of medieval and futuristic elements very much reminds me of the Broken Empire series of novels by Mark Lawrence.

In German it's "Prinz der Dunkelheit/König der Dunkelheit/Kaiser der Dunkelheit". Now the names make it sound like pulpy schlock (at least in German), but it's a very cool setting. Starts out as plainly medieval, then slowly opens up with fantasy elements, only to hit you with a shovel once you realize just exactly where (when?) it is set and what a lot of those places and things are that are talked about. I won't say more as that'd spoil the fun. I liked it; it's different, and as Lawrence's debut work (he's a researcher into AI in his day job) it's got a rather accessible style of writing. FAIR WORD OF WARNING, and I cannot capslock that enough: You will be witnessing the story through the eyes of a sociopathic killer, Prince Jorg of Ankrath, and while he opens up to become a characters with immense depth he is not a nice guy, at all. If you cannot stand him, it won't be a series for you. Lawrence seems to have a knack for these kind of protagonists, though. In the follow up sequel/side-quel (?) the main character is a drinker, gambler, seducer of women and someone who would rather run away from a fight, given the chance, and it's still awesome.
