Hey, this map is for your novel, and I appreciate the fact that you want it the way it works best for your story But now that we've got that tricky peninsula taken care of... it's time for some fun!

I won't be online tomorrow, but I should have something to post on Friday or Saturday, which should be the next time I'm online.

I've started working on the inner terrain for this map. I have two concerns, I could use some feedback on.

    ### Latest WIP ###

    Alenhold.02lrg.JPG

My first concern is the twin mountain ranges. They seem too narrow, and more importantly, too parallel to me. But I'm also looking at the original drawing that I'm using as a reference, and trying to match up the distances as best as I can. My thought is to add a bit more landmass to the northwest to accommodate the two mountain ranges, and also to rotate the west most mountain range a bit.

My second concern, is the desert in the south. I'm wondering if it's too big for the size of the continent. Using landmarks as a reference, I'm wondering if I should have used the lower of the two eastern peninsulas to use as the guide for the desert. Other than that, this map is progressing. Feedback and critiques are MOST welcome!

The mountains are only as narrow as you make them, Storm Try using a bit more 'human jitter', and don't be quite so precise about following a nice narrow line as you put them down. Work in short rows from the top down, a bit like this, remembering all the while that where mountains occur, generally there has been a huge uplifting of the land and that what you are drawing is in fact the weathered ruins of that huge lump in the land. Its usually going to be quite a lot wider than just a line.

I would agree with you about the size of the desert. I don't think the Sahara is really all that much bigger than the Himalayas, give or take a few hundred miles

I think I'm going to redo some of those mountains, they just don't look right to me... and I will probably reduce that desert by a bit. But I'm also looking to see what the client wants.

Yeah I'm not feeling those mountains as well. Feel free to play around with them as you see fit. Tall and smaller as seems pleasing to you.

I also agree that the desert is a bit too big. It could probably be brought back a bit.

The southern peninsula is perfect however! I love it.

For your climate question, the equator of this planet goes through right about the northern tip of the desert. So there's not really any cold areas.

Sorry for the late reply. It's a crazy weekend for me. Thanks!

Not a problem! This is actually a crazy month for me! But I'm going to work on those changes, and I should have a new post on Monday.

So I reworked the mountain ranges and the desert, plus I added some more of the mountain ranges that were on the client's copy. While I may tuck in another mountain(range) here and there, for the most part the mountain ranges are done, unless I forgot some! The next step will be to start adding the waterways, after this rendering is signed off on.

Oh, and I also reduced the 'boxiness' of that north western bay, which has given me just a tad bit more land to work with in that area.

Yup, thise mountain ranges are a definitive improvement, ladiestorm! I'm not sure if you should add any further mountain ranges down the road, though, depending on what else you plan to incorporate. If you feel like it maybe you could still tweak the mountains you've got here and there so they have those little "branches" shown in Mouse' example.

@Wired - that's what I meant by tucking another one or two in, possibly. Not so much adding more mountians, as in better define what I already have
