Map Old school DM making the leap from pencil/paper to digital maps

    Howdy!

I've been playing RPGs since the early 80s and making really lame, hand-drawn maps for my gaming buddies the whole time. I moved recently and had to build an entirely new group of players. To motivate them and show how cool the "cooperative storytelling with dice" concept is, I decided to make a map of their 'home' city.

I'd appreciate any suggestions or critiques as this is the first completed map I've build using GIMP. I took many pointers and lots of inspiration from the other Cartographer's Guild members so hopefully those that I've 'borrowed knowledge/techniques' from feel the full weight of my hearty and enthusiastic THANK YOU.

    Thanks,

    Pawthorne

Very cool. You could do well in the monthly challenges with a map like this !

    Thank you, Redrobes!

I'm not at all confident enough to try something like the monthly challenge yet without a bit more practice. That map took a lot more time than I think it should have due to the learning curve involved in understanding how to use different brushes, shading, etc. But perhaps after a bit more experimentation...

    Cheers!

I haven't seen too many town maps that include surrounding farms - this is visually very interesting!

Thanks man... One of the things I read about was that it for every 1 person in a town, there needed to be 8-10 people 'supporting' them farming, etc. Plus, Cymric was supposed to be an agricultural area that grew up into a proper city.

    Any suggestions are welcome
