Hey Storm. It aint what you fly, but the way that you fly it that counts - and you're flying it pretty damn well

I'm sorry I misstated my comment about connecting the landmasses, I meant to the "Mountain Ranges" I was suggesting putting in a couple mountain peaks between the larger MOUNTAIN RANGES to visually tie them together without creating a full connected range. No big deal just wanted to clarify my comment.

Lol... I was actually thinking about foothills and rolling hills myself...

I think that's very much needed to give things a sense of credibility. I think that this is exactly the point that Robulous wanted to make when he wrote:

Those jagged mountains just pop out of the ground in random places rather than resulting from natural processes

It doesn't make much sense for mountains to pop up suddenly out of what looks like flat prairie.

Beyond that, I still remain curious about the textures that you're using, particularly the desert. Robulous' description of it as a fudge-frosting desert fairly well describes what I see. I assume that there's something in your client's description that leads to this unusual texture, but I can't imagine what it would be.

More like I was testing out the Herman Weilink desert. I liked his ice and snow textures when I made that uncharted island for my husband, but this desert does kind of look like frosting on a cake, doesn't it? Lol. I'm currently looking at other options... I just have to be.careful to make sure it fits in with the style.

    Now I understand better.

The frosting look I think comes from two factors ... the scale and the size of the area being mapped. Basically, it's a very good texture but the sand dunes are so big in comparison to the size of the island that I didn't guess that this was desert. I discovered that was intended only when I read text.

I haven't tried it myself so I really don't know, but my guess is that if you reduced the scale redundancy would be terrible. Now that I know with what you've started, I think the scale/size problem also applies to your grassland or prairie texture, which ever. However, I think if you make the scale a bit finer and blend other similar textures over it, that you'll get a good result. Because of the pronounced dune patterns, I doubt that it would work with the dune texture, but you might prove me wrong.

If you stay with the fudge frosting desert, don't expect me to take a bite, however. I dislike sweets and above all, I dislike chocolate, and of all kinds of chocolate that I dislike, fudge is at about the top of the list. On the other side of the coin, Robulous already took a bite out of it, so he might be a bit hungrier!

lol Mark! What I decided to do, is to go with a terrain texture I found, in all places, CD3. and because there is an area of badlands that lead into this desert, and because I needed to make the desert bigger, I set up the desert, then laid the badlands down on top, giving it a bit of a transparency so the desert bleeds through from underneath... to transition the colors scheme a bit. I've also added some foothills and rolling hills. Once I get the okay from my client, the next step will be adding in the lakes and rivers, then tweaking the mountain ranges some more to fit. So this is what I have

Wow, it's certainly coming along nicely! I love the texture on the desert and the badlands are looking very cool. I do feel that the badlands are a little big and could probably be brought back just a little. Other than that, I'd say it's fantastic!

That works for me. I thought the badlands looked a little boxy anyway. I can fix that, and we can move forward
