Map Continent of Anasthias - 1930s gazetteer style

This is a "modern"-style map of my continent of Anasthias, the heart of the Civilised World in my world of Helevos. (See previously a historic map, and a world map).

I was originally inspired by old gazetteers and maps of the 1930s - particularly a family Pears Cyclopedia which inspired me to create the side maps with more facts and information.

Thanks to everyone in the WIP thread, you've really helped me rethink and improve it a lot! Comments from all you talented guild members has really helped me improve my mapmaking. I could tinker with this map for ever but this is as close to finished as I have time for right now.

Harthera and Orror are two enormous rival nations: Orror a vast, relatively benign theocracy (the Ottoman Empire on a good day); Harthera an aggressive naval imperial power (Napoleon if he'd had the British Navy). Technologically Harthera is roughly early Victorian, though the rest of the world lags far behind. Anarthis, Munatan and Torthien are regions with multiple nations, in which the Great Powers squabble for influence in a kind of cold war/scramble for Africa.

Although modern maps are entirely my favourite thing, this turned out beautifully and it looks very authentic. Have some rep!

Looking at your maps overall, it's really quite impressive the number of different styles you've used to create your world. Got a favourite? (Mine's is the Dieppe-style)

You did such a good job on this, you really did capture the essence of the style... One of my favourites.

Thanks for all your praise and rep! I think this really is my best and most ambitious map so far so glad to be appreciated.

Thanks! Yes I do try to shake things up with different styles, though I worry that just means I'm inconsistent! I've tried using same styles on different maps but it's surprising how some things work and some things don't.

I do really like the Dieppe style map, I suppose my problem with it is it's a totally inaccurate geographical view of Helevos, though represents their in-world beliefs about geography. I think I'm most pleased with this map here, it was a random inspiration that worked out surprisingly well. I'm currently working on a similar style world map, but it isn't going as well as I hoped.

I take that as a huge compliment from you vorropohaiah, I've long been in awe of your Atlas Elyden! You have a detail and consistency of style I aspire to.

For those interested, I'm continuing development of my world map here inspired by this style.
