Default First Map Post -- A 250 sq mile "Province Map"

Well, after several tutorials and many false starts, I have a working copy that I'm ready to post. This is my first map using GIMP and my own art. I made a brush for the swamp, but the rest is hand-drawn using a Monoprice drawing tablet I got on an Amazon Gold Box sale for $30. Thanks in advance for your feedback! Here are some of the tutorials I followed (apologies for the weird links, this is I think, my second post here!)

This was first, and taught me a lot of GIMP skills.

This was next and taught me a few more GIMP skils.

When I wasn't getting what I wanted for the look of my map, I used these to create my own overland assets.

    And finally...

A few of my own thoughts...
I like where I'm headed with the hills, but I'm not yet satisfied.
I have more Dungeon Master assets to add, wizard's towers, bandit camps and such. I'm going to create them independently and paste them, like I did with the keep.
    I need to add titles.
START SMALL!!! My first map was Continent scale (about 126,000 sq miles). Don't do it. It's too much out of the gate -- but I still have my continent map start, so someday! I next moved down to Kingdom scale (about 12,600 sq miles) and it was still too big -- I kept that, too, just in case I decide to go back to that level. When I scaled down to Province (about 250 sq miles) I felt a lot more comfortable with the size of the piece and the assets I'd need.

Hey there Carl, welcome to the Guild! Not a bad first stab at digital mapping. The details are clear enough and it's got a nice sketchy quality to it (especially the castle, which I quite like). Was this intended as a player handout? If not, I think labels would have been in order. Also, a title, compass rose and perhaps a bit more of a detailed border all would have helped this piece appear more "finished".

    Cheers,

Thanks, Arsheesh. I got so wrapped up in getting the map assets in place, I left off those nice finishing details. Now I know what I'll do next!
