That's a lovely story Ilgoth. I think you definitely achieved the look you were aiming for and even if the fonts are a tad much, still do their job well. Besides, as that photo clearly shows, that's one happy client!
Hey all!
Back in July, an american family contacted me and told me their little boy has created his own world. As a nice little surprise birthday gift, they wanted someone to take their son's sketches and make them into 'proper map' as they put it. I took it as a nice challenge, as the boy had so many unique locations on it that it first felt overhelming. I was told to include every single element, making the city big central point.
I wanted to achieve colorful feeling, a map suitable for children. The actual fonts are in my opinion the part, where I didn't deliver but a legend was a no-go.
Anyways, they sent me an e-mail last night with this picture (they gave me permission to share it here):

And a little, "Beginning and the End" comparison. His sketches with my map.

What a wonderful gift you gave, how can you beat that smile by that kid! Look like we might have new member soon as well. I'll have to come back and rep you, can't right now.
That's really neat! Good job.
Aww, that photo of your 'client' is adorable! After your recent woes with ungrateful authors, I hope this made up for it. That big smile makes everything worthwhile!
The map is really nice too and it's fantastic to see how you took the sketches and transformed them. I can see how a legend might have been better, but what the client wants, the client gets! You've made a great job with it and I'll rep if I can.

A collective thank you to all of you. I'm glad he liked it. Would be awesome, if he keeps up with this hobby. Before he turns 25, he kicks our buttside with his maps.
