Very nice first map! I've never heard of mapvember before.
The parchment texture isn't my favorite but other than that it's fantastic!
I decided to enter the Mapvember event this year. Each day, draw a map !
Miska Fredman, the talented artist behind this started this challenge last year. He posted a list of topics on his blog, topics you are not obliged to follow (I'll try for some, they're battle map oriented and I'm more of a regional cartographer myself).

I wanted to start hard so I spent 5 hours on this map with photoshop. Tried to hesitate less and rush into things (I almost never pressed cmd+z, cross my heart). I took inspiration in Diamond and J.Edwards maps and here's the result :

These maps are doomed to not be perfect but it's a great way to try new things if I have the time. I won't spend 5 hours drawing every day of the month but I'll do one map a day and try to post them in time. If not the day after. It'll be demanding but really fun. If you want to see the hand drawn ones in time, they'll be posted first on my twitter account @thomrey (how original). The hashtag to see the maps posted by other people is : #mapvember
Wish me luck !

Sweet! I'm loving this concept, let's keep it going! =)
Really cool and I imagine really great practice. Doubt I'll have time to enter properly but I might try and join you for a few if I can!
As for this map, I think you've made great use of the time. A nice load of mountains there!
Oh and good luck!!
Fantastic work, though you're setting a high bar to follow with five hours work on this! I hope there are many long and boring train journeys this month.

Good Luck Man! what a challenge, will they all be black and white linework? Do you have any criteria that you are proposing on these? Are they all the same size? This is quite a commitment be interesting to see what you learn from this. Go man go!!!
@ Josiah : Barge in even if it's just for a few maps ! About the parchment, could you elaborate ? I find it too dark for my taste but I4ll touch this later. All these maps are made in a hurry so, I'll probably make something more polished with some of them so, do not hesitate to critic what's not good.
@ Salama : Glad to see more people joining !
@ GLS : Join in ! About the mountains, I went a little crazy but it was worth it. I already imagine this map shaded
@ ChickPea : Not many train trips but I'll have some time maybe mainly for black&white battle maps but there'll be regional maps too.
@ snodsy : Thanks snodsy ! They'll be mostly black&white due to the lack of time. I tried coloring this one but it would have taken too long. No criteria besides the list of topics Miska posted and it's not mandatory. As he said, you can even do post-it maps And yeah, I hope I'll have the opportunity to learn a lot. At least I'll have a huge tank full of future WIPs
Wow, that's ambitious.. great idea!
I think this is bound to bring forth interesting results. =)

Nice to see you doing this, I'll certainly follow your progress. It would be cool to see you do some battlemaps as well!

Thanks Matthias and Daniel, behold the battle map !

Drawn in 1h30 in the train with a 0.3 pigment pen on charcoal paper. That offing train kept swaying so the line work isn't as steady as it could have been. Tell me what you think and especially if it's readable.
I've already got an idea for tomorrow's entry : the Descent.
