Looking really good, I agree with your assessment of the issue with the coastline, it really only bothers me when the coastline goes straight up (BLASEDINA's top pennisula) if maybe the tip just curled a little more. Are the center mountains going to be taller? seems like it in your sketch, no issue was just wondering.

Could MOITUAN type not be so curved?, starts to look a little funny. Also Ronaldix seems a little bothersome. Looking forward to seeing this come together, always enjoy seeing your work.

Heh funny thing is, client saw my sketch and requested a few minor adaptations - one of them being to curl in the tip of of Blasedina's top peninsula! So I guess you're right on track there.

The central part of the map is a mystery to both the people living in Tentivu and my client the DM - it's yet-to-be-explored, so the precise details are just cartographic freedom. A bit like the "hic sunt dracones" blurbs on old real world maps. The only thing set in stone was that there should be a massive mountain in the middle of the continent, which is somehow linked to the four extreme points. So yeah there'll be a mountain of a mountain, and just because I can, I'll plonk down a small, sharply rising ridge to lend some plausibility to its existence.

About the labeling: no worries there, these were just sketched in rapidly to ease communication with the client, and will be entirely absent from the next updates. I'll only get to labeling again once inking, colouring and shading are done, and considering the absurd size of this map, this is still a long way off.

Thanks for your suggestions and your kind words, Snodsy!!

Lovely land shapes. You certainly have a talent to turn a sketch in a great land mass. I also like the the layout so far.

Thanks Ilanthar! I hope you'll keep liking it as I go along.

I'm back with an update, by the way! I did the waves off the coast and the coastal terrain. This may look like a minor update, but it took me several hours to get them just right. Am I slow, or is this just slow work?

Thoughts, suggestions and critique are welcome as always.

And as usual, the stricter you are, the more I learn, so don't hold back and vomit that critique comet!

Ah, I hate it when little things seem to take forever to do...so don't worry you're certainly not alone on that front!

Firstly, I'd like to say that I love the shape of it. To me it seems so ethereal, like an mystical bird flying through the sky.
Those lines behind are very interesting. I've never seen anything quite like them before, but they add to this strangeness even more (in a good way).

I think those vibes are exactly what you want to see from an otherworldly place, so really good job. I very much look forwards to seeing where this goes... (No pressure )

Mountains - and a LOT of them!

But seriously, this took me like two weeks, which is just ridiculous. I guess I should find a way to speed this process up huh.

    Find commissions with less mountains!

Looks great so far, indeed those are a lot of mountains.
They are very jagged and pointed mountains, perhaps a bit too jagged for my taste, unless that's what you were going for. Still looks great though.
    Looking forward to seeing more!

Those are awesome mountains, especially the huge peak at the center of the chain. I do not mean to be cruel but ... I really look forward to seeing them shaded ... Muhahahahahahaha !

Seriously, I feel you, I accepted a jungle commission recently

Thanks Josiah! They are quite pointy indeed, but rest assured, that's the look I'm after for this map. However, I do intend to sneak in more rounded mountains in my next maps - even if it's just to practice my hand please the client even more .

You're an awful person Thomrey . But your wish shall be fulfilled! So just because I like to make my fellow cartographer's happy, I'm here with a partial update that features, indeed, shading!

Things that changed since my last update:

    • I threw in the remaining rivers;
    • then I moved on to micro-terraining (basically adding a bunch of barely visible details all over the map to indicate depth and perspective).
    • The most visible changes however are the colour scheme; and
    • the terrain shading, both for the mountains and the rest of the map.

Forests will be added once micro-terraining and shading are completely done, so what you're looking at here is the bare terrain without any vegetation. Or at least a partial version of it.

Thoughts? Remarks? Insults you just have to scream out once you saw this? Let me know!
