I look forward to seeing the final results and trying those trees myself.

I love the mountains and the forests you've done on this map but something has been bugging me for days when I look at it but I could not tell what it was until today. It isn't that it is the wrong way to do something, it is just that it doesn't seem to fit with the rest of what I am looking at in the map.

What it is, is the fact that the forests and the mountains look isometric, but the icons for the buildings do not. This gives it a weird perspectives that my eyes cannot ignore. It is like a flat stamp on an otherwise isometric map. I do love the buildings though, I just think they should be more isometric to fit with the overall feel of the map.

Hey Meshon, this turned out wonderful! The new frame is really elegant, and it lets the lovely terrain features stand out even more. Also the "filling" of the terrain with little dots "glues" the whole composition of elements nicely together without making it look overcrowded (atm i'm experimenting with something similar, so it's nice to see such a wonderful application of that technique). For Tonnichiwa's remark about the non-iso buildings: With some (of my own) maps this fact bugs me too, but there are numerous examples of maps, (Sapiento's work comes to mind) where non-iso city icons fit perfectly with the isometric landscape, and so does it here in my view. Also the compass rose is a shining example of wabi-sabi artwork. Your client will be pleased with it i guess!

This is really nice, like the new border better and your icons are quite nice, great job!

Good choice for your border, Meshon. It fit simply well with your linedraw. Good job on this. For the ISO aspect of your map, it's just the mismatch between the forest and the city icon that seems disturbing. I find that the mountains fits well with your icons. So all added, there is nothing to modify imo.
    Cheers !

...and I love the way you made the topography at the top of the map overlap the border. It works beautifully I think. Wonderful effect.

Thanks for all the kind words! I tried a bunch of things for the buildings to try to remedy the perspective discrepancy but didn't come up with anything satisfying when I made them isometric. Part of the problem was that I didn't have too much space to work in, so eventually I went with something a little simpler. As always, there was a lot to learn and it was a really satisfying project! The book is in proofing now, I'm excited to see the results!

The map looks fantastic Meshon. The old border had been bugging me and the new border really helps bring out the map more. Is this the final version of the map, or is it still a WIP?

Thanks Daniel! This is the version that's going in the book as far as I know, though I still would like to work on a pen and ink version.

So it turned out that there was a spelling error on the map, so I fiddled a bit more. Mainly adjusting the placement and weight of that "banner" looking canyon, and lightening the lines of Aquila just slightly. To paraphrase (yet again) my favourite bit of advice from Professor Len Findlay, "A work is never completed, only abandoned at a reasonable point."

This might be where I abandon this one

Thank you everyone, for the comments and kudos, it's really appreciated!

    Cheers,
