Thread: Hi all!

    Default Hi all!

Hi, my name is Forrest and i really enjoy playing/DMing D&D games, but always had a fascination to maps. I currently go to school at the local college for Mechanical Engineering and when I should be studying I'm usually making maps in my notebooks. I found Cartographers Guild through reddit where i spend most of my limited free time.

While I'm introducing myself I had 2 questions that i thought might be quickly answered.
    1) How do you open .gtx files on Photoshop CS6? I was following the town map tutorial found in the pdf tutorial section here and couldn't figure out how to open it.
2)Are there any other town map tutorials for town maps on here, I've searched slightly but haven't found exactly what i was looking for. I was looking for something that would show how to make up close city maps, almost like city blocks for a fantasy map.

Hi Forrest, and welcome to the Guild.

I had to google gtx files as I'm not familiar with them, but I believe you're talking about a Genetica file? I think Guild member Mouse uses Genetica (though not Photoshop) but maybe she can offer some advice on compatibility for other software. As for city building tutorials, I've put a few links below. Some of these might be a little old now, but I'm sure the principles are much the same.

There are also some links in Meshon's comment here to Jon Roberts' Fantastic Maps site.

Hope something here is useful, but if you're not finding what you need, feel free to start a thread explaining exactly what you're trying to do and hopefully someone can help you.
