    Can only agree with the others Caenwyr, the flags and cardinal orbs are really cool, and the whole theme is absolutely fantastic! The only nitpick for me is the digitally bevelled look of the new elements (frames, font, orbs, etc.). It somewhat clashes with your usual splendid subtle hand drawn shading of the landscape. Keep up the fantastic work!

    That's the idea Josiah! Thanks a bunch!

    The N,E,S,W circle are much better then last time i saw them. The emblems are also awesome. Great job.
    Thanks Voolf! The idea was for those labels to fit the colour of the borders, but you're absolutely right that they stuck out like a sore thumb. So I toned them down a little bit, and I believe that solved the issue. As you can see, I always listen to sensible suggestions

    You're absolutely right, and this one got fixed as well!

    Thanks a bunch Snodsy. I must admit this one demanded a lot of my inspiration: it's so darn full! But I guess that's part of what makes this place come to life, so that's great.

    I get what you mean, Abu, and I have thought a long while about adding subtler frames instead, but after the flag-spike-thingy disaster, I decided the "gold-rimmed insets" wouldn't look so bad after all . It's a trade-off between what you're aiming for, and what you're actually capable of, I suppose

    Alright! While I'm at it answering your awesome (and super helpful!) critique, I'd like to take this opportunity to immediately announce I finished the map. A quick overview of what changed since the last update:

    • added the labels of the last country (Dajongan, southern half of the eastern peninsula);
    • added some more labels sprinkled all over the map (usually tiny little towns important for the client's story);
    • changed the fire orb (it now looks like the broiling surface of a brilliant sun);
    • changed the flags for Dajongan and Olslaav (the countries that make up the kingdom of Ilamos);
    • finished the cartouche, with a scale and a notice on the identity of the cartographer (client wanted to attribute an NPC to yours truly. Hee hee!);
    • And finally I played around a little with the general lighting of the map, since my way of doing this stuff (adding layer upon layer, mostly in multiply mode) tends to darken the map considerably.

    So that's it guys! I just posted the map in the Finished section as well - you can find it here.
