Really cool idea Francissimo! Your space work is always gorgeous to admire so I can't wait to see it progress!
Hi folks
I've read the hyperion cantos from Dan Simmons quite a while ago but my imagination was deeply marked by the universe he depicted in his books. I found the idea of river Tethys really cool, that's a river going through multiple worlds by using some kind of stargates to join all those world in one huge interplanetary waterway. More info here http://hyperioncantos.wikia.com/wiki/River_Tethys
I'll try to go with something mixing space map and regular maps, i'm still thinking about how to represent that but i've already got a few ideas.
Here's a wip with random images to show the concept

YES! I love the Hyperion books, and I love pretty much everything you map, so... good combination.
Thanks for the interest guys, hyperion books is for sure something memorable!
I'm still trying things to represent the tethys way though various planets, here's another version with a small map of a city. The city map is based on a sketchup 3D model by Nicholas Pez, reworked using twillight render and photoshop.

That's got real promise, I like it! The call out showing the star on the main map works great, and showing the actual route within each planet is awesome.
Dang, now I really want to re-read those books... It's been three or four years, that's long enough to wait between re-reads, right?
Thanks Mouse
And yep Diamond, a few years is far enough waiting between a re-read of this masterpiece!
Here's an update with more work on the main background:
