This is looking gorgeous Josiah
The colors are nice and the image reads well zoomed out.
Splendid work sir
Another update here!
These are some of the changes I've done:
-Tweaked the market colours and added on by the arena
-Changed the docks a bit
-Toned down the red roofs
-Added scattered trees around the map
-Added a sword and shield compass rose (the one I made a while back). Do you think it fits with the rest of the map?
-Did some work on the title/border

As it's getting pretty close to finished, so any critiques or suggestions are much appreciated.
Akae? Really? I would have never thought that! That's quite a compliment considering his awesome work.
Bedankt Dan!
That's a good point, I'll have to see if I should change that.
Thanks, much appreciated!

Hey Josiah
Its a beautiful map, but I must have missed some of the conversation a bit earlier. I'm not really sure why there's a paler patch on that south west facing slope right at the top of the map, just north of the city?

Something is bothering me. The coastline is pretty thick and bold in regard to the rest of the linework. Maybe making it more sketchy would help blend it with the rest of the linework.
And I noticed tour signature compass
This map is incredibly detailed. The shading on the hillsides to give depth is gorgeous.
A bit of an update.
Things that have changed:
-Simpler border upon clients request
-changed compass rose, also feedback from client
-thinner coastline linework
-Attempted to fix 'pale spot' Mouse mentioned
-more docks on south east island

Once again, any feedback is more than welcome!
Thanks so much for the comment J.
That paler patch was just an especially bright spot on the hill, I toned it down a bit. Do you think it looks better? Thanks for the feedback!
You're right... I wasn't exactly sure what style I was going to do when I started out. The coastline was the first thing I did so it had thicker linework. I made it a bit thinner now.
The client said he'd rather have a more classic compass, so that's what I did.
Thanks Ilanthar!
You're right about the bridges, that would probably look better. I'm not sure how I would do that though because of the layer effects and masks and stuff... It gets cumbersome. I think I'll have to leave it how it is.
I changed the shadows for the bridge, do you think they're better, or still too far?
Thank you very much!
The coastline works better but I'd play with it's opacity just to see how it looks like. I guess something between 60 and 80 % would make it more discreet and still show the limit
Oh yes the paler patch is much better now
Top marks for this map, Josiah!
EDIT: I'll wait till you put it up in finished maps to rep you for it - I get a bit confused as to whether I have or I haven't otherwise! LOL! (I know - poor old mouse!)

Your map is very inspiring. As a role playing guy, i see all the opportunity a map like yours can offer.
Very good job.
