I definitely would love to see a tutorial for this HU! It's a great looking piece and I wouldn't have a clue where to even start on a map like this. I'd love to see a labelled version too to really build the piece up even more and to show off all your worldbuilding skills!

Talent you most definitely have and rep is coming your way!

The quips on your posts always make me chuckle Handsome. And like everyone has said, this is a pretty good map indeed. Handy technique with the mountains. I was scratching my head wondering how you got them to look so realistic till I read your post. I do love a good points of light campaign. Will you be employing hexcrawl rules for this campaign?

    Cheers,

@arsheesh: Not in my current game, no. In fact, my current campaign is all based around one place: a gigantic megadungeon (with two hundred and something different rooms, from memory). However, all of my games are set in the same world, so I've been wanting to do a bigger-picture map for a while now.

@Eilathen: I'll be sure to post more maps as I create them - I'm currently midway through detailing one of the main regions that the game will take place in. The only pre-existing map likely to be retained in this setting is the one for Demeria City (in this thread here: https://www.cartographersguild.com/s...ad.php?t=34265). The placement of the city, and the actual region around Demeria will be heavily restructured. As for worldbuilding, I'm definitely no genius. I'll happily use the standard fantasy map tropes (eg the north is an icy land full of roaming barbarians, the south is jungle and/or desert, and over the mountains to the east is a completely different culture considered mystic by many... etc etc)

There is nothing mediocre about this map, it's gorgeous, some of my favorite maps use real world data, and you've done the style justice... Great job.

Oh and also guys: it turns out this style does NOT scale well. I'm currently working on a zoomed-in region of this map, and despite trying every possible combination of techniques I can throw at it, it just looks wrong. Really, really wrong. Seems like unless you want to use hypsographic tints, its almost impossible to convey height for certain areas with shaded relief.
The parts I'm having the most trouble with are the areas where it is mountainous but there is a massive difference in altitude between areas on the map. It's really hard to show that one mountainous area, even though the "mountains" are smaller/less sharp, is actually higher than another area with larger "mountains" that sit at a lower altitude.
For a real life example, check out the hypsographic tints on the area around Mount Everest:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_...cation_map.jpg
With shaded relief alone, it doesn't properly convey what's going on unless you can see both sides of the mountainous area. It's really hard to explain and it's really annoying.
