    Wip Falconius' One-Day Folder

Hi, I've got a lot of projects that it takes me forever to finish (read never). This folder/thread is an attempt to counteract that. In it, I will put projects that I start and complete in one day. Not every day, rather it is just about the project time limit.

I'm aiming to do at least one a week, but unless things go south I'm not going to hold to a very rigid schedule, in which case I will switch it to having one done before Friday night every week. How will it be determined if things are going South? If at the end of the month I have posted less than four projects in here, that is a failure state.

Anyways, to kick it off here we go:
    WTRMLotana.jpg
(I tried using Redrobes' watermark program but the difference is barely discernible with this image, perhaps it requires more saturation and colour for it to work well. Not so important for these but figured I'd give it a go.)
Some obvious issues with the map is shadows (ie I think the only cast shadows I did are from the roof pillar things). The problem that I felt would occur is that I would just start loosing detail if I tried casting shadows down on other things. Unless of course I spent a lot of care and time doing it, and given my lack of expertise it would still loose detail I think.
The other issue is with labeling. I didn't plan it out at all and just kinda went for it, and it shows. Also I tried a thinner nib when I began but the script was looking so spidery and shaky I ended up going back up to the one I used for the title. Also a border would've been nice.

    Thank you for your indulgence.

That's a really cool style, Falconius

Hope you manage to keep up with it, because I'm looking forward to the next instalment.

Very good idea Falconius! Maybe I need to try it.
Excellent map already, with a cool design. I can't wait to see what other things you create.

P.S. What does Redrobes watermarking program do exactly?

Thanks Guys. I hope it works too Mouse

Josiah the program just puts watermarks of various sizes and intensity into the image (or I think it does). It's over here: https://www.cartographersguild.com/s...ad.php?t=36655

Excellent idea ! I hope you can keep your goals: it promises beautiful maps for us! And the first is quite interesting: I like this architecture perched high on a mountain, it allows nice complications, such as these stairs, which add a nice exotic touch to the general atmosphere!

Erp.. absolute and total screw up this week, but I figure I'll post my failures here as well:
    Canal Sewer.jpg
The idea was to be some sort of sewer set up. But I literally hate everything about it right now, and obviously, took too long since it's incomplete. Made some cool levers that can't really be seen though so that's a plus.

Maybe its not so bad, Falconius

Add texture, labels, a key maybe, and it would be ok.

At the very least you've probably learned a lot without even realising it - like how to make those curious four-leaf clover shapes
