From one extreme to another! I think this has to be one of the biggest fields to take part since I joined the Guild last year

Nah, I don't write. Well, not counting the nonsense I spout on the internet. But no serious writing.

But that is a form of writing

EDIT: I write fantasy fiction, but I'm a very harsh self critic, so I'll probably never get to the end of anything I've written and be satisfied enough to actually publish it.

Is the definition of a writer to be published? I don't think so. To me the definition is anyone who does at least an hour or so of creative writing each day - someone who would suffer withdrawal symptoms if this activity was denied them. That's the kind of writer that I am. I just happen to write about sequential events with the same characters each time, which is basically all a novel is - that and the framework of the major plot that holds all those little bits of writing together

No, I don't think a writer needs to be published to be called a writer. I'd say that people who are trying to write a novel, as well as people who have blogs & suchlike, are all writers. I don't really count forum comments, which - to me - are more like conversations that just happen to be written down (does that even make sense?!)

I've written a few paragraphs of text to accompany maps but that's about the limit of my creative writing since I left school. Actually... hmmm... I have to occasionally respond to complaints at work, and that's a whole different branch of creative writing....

Oh complaints handling, with the root cause and corrective actions. It's amazing how all creative you can get trying to describe in very technical terms that someone forgot to push a button and how whipping has been implemented

"... Upon a full investigation we were able to identify a malfunctioning digital compression switch application due to a misaligned synchronisation driver. We have now implemented a flexible percussive correction process."
