Interesting idea, I never thought to do an inset map. What a better time than now.

Okay, I just realised something: by "different scale", you mean that it has to show a different-sized area, don't you? Because by those criteria, I think my entry may be ineligible yet again...

Technically I think that if you have an inset of an area that is the same amount of area as the larger map, your scale for each is different because the inset is smaller in proportion to the full page map, dimensionally. If that made sense. So, 1 inch on the larger map would be less area than 1 inch on the inset map. But that is just my own take on it.

... The actual challenge does seem to state wanting a different sized area for the inset... so, larger or smaller amount of land/area than the main map. Guess that didn't really help answer your question. Sorry.

Chashio, I think that's right. I've seen plenty of inset maps that show the same area, just in a smaller size, to show things like natural resources, or language groupings, or whatever. I think you're ok, Ares.

Okay - I do satisfy the other paragraph (showing a different aspect of the area than the main map), so I'll just publish and be damned if I do fall outside the rules.

The only real 'hard' rule we have is that you can't have started the map before the beginning of the contest. Ultimately it's up to the voters to decide if they feel like your map meets that month's challenge.

Just a note: normally the challenges end on the last day of the month, but I probably won't be able to get to it on Sunday (real-world stuff), so this challenge will end around 9PM Pacific time on MONDAY, MAY 1ST.
