Thanks all, I'm glad you like it! I just hope I'll be able to fulfill those expectations.

Hey Thomas, I'll be happy to provide you with a no-coastlines version when I have a little bit of time, but it won't necessarily be pretty. I was kinda lazy when I did the coastal mask and used the linework first and based the rest on it afterwards, which results in a lot on 1-pixel wide errors hidden by that black line. And other than you'd expect, they are pretty visible. So if I provide a no-coastlines version, it'll be after a little clean-up.

Okay! So I did some more work on the background layers, and a ton more teeny tiny tweaks in the roofs that were already there. Most will probably be entirely invisible, but there you go.

Next up is adding some texture to the mainland (some farmland, some fragmented woods, some solitary trees and some terrain shading) and then I guess the main part of the map is finished! After that I can start work on the insets, and the rest of the frame. Not quite finished yet!

I understand. It's just that the work you did on the sea bed really shines and I seem to remember a certain greek inspired map where the mountain without linework were glorious

Wow, that's gonna be a masterpiece! I love the layout of the city and the way you did the waters.

Hey all, so this is a little experiment I would like to show you.

You probably remember ThomasR asking for a version without the coastal linework. So I went and started editing the underlying colour groups to eliminate any artefacts on the shoreline. When I then tried to switch off the coastal linework, however, I accidentally switch off all of it: houses, monuments, trees - everything. And... I actually like it!

But, what do you think! Or do you like the linework version better?

Ooh yeah, you'll notice I lighted up the map a little bit (in previous iterations it was starting to get a bit too dark in my opinion). I also did some work on the beaches and added a sh*t-ton of solitary trees. Still toying about with the denser wooded areas though, so those are for a later update.

Oooh! It's beautiful! I really love it!
How did you achieve the fantastic lighting for all the buildings?

    Looking good

Maybe switch the lighting to the NW? I prefer the one without the linework, even though some of the detail is lost. Maybe a half way version with much reduced opacity or overlay blend mode of the lines layer(s) with them on top of the rest would improve the sharpness a bit?

I like the one without the linework. It's lighter and brighter, and much more 'open' if that makes sense.

I think both are nice, but I tend to prefer the one with lines. If it were a regional map I'd say without lines, but I think the buildings look better with... either way you can't go wrong both are equally beautiful in there own way, great job on this.

I love it ! I'd say without linework it almost looks like an aerial photo. I'd just add a very very low opacity blue on the rim of the lands with a soft round brush or grunge brush softened. That's really beautiful Pieter !
