    Dan, have you read the 'Divine Cities' trilogy by Robert Jackson Bennett? The layout of the map totally makes me think of the world of those books.

    I've never read those books. The map was simply based on maps of the British Empire. I looked it up though and it's indeed very similar, perhaps even more than it is to my original idea ;p Would you recommend those books?

    Unreservedly. They are some of the greatest books I've read in the last decade. And I read a LOT.

    I certainly remember that! Since I became a father I have hardly ever had the time to read a book. I'll just add these to the list of books I'll read when my daughter leaves the house in about 18 years from now ;p
