Admittedly most members of the guild are not directly affected by this as they don't do any work involving maps or spatial information for the US federal government but I expect there's enough overlap that it's worth posting.

Licensed engineers and surveyors are needed for certain situations, but most spatial information has different requirements. An engineer, architect, or surveyor is not interchangeable with a geoscientist, GIS developer, or cartographer.

Disclosure: Despite being Canadian, I would be affected by this as the US parent of the GIS software company I work for has big US government contracts. Look into this for yourself and be critical as you would hopefully do with anything else.
