Default July 2017 Entry : Stronghold of Eternal Night

    OK, I'm in :
    cg-july2017-list.jpg
I have chosen #6. I will focus on the Stronghold of Eternal Night, with some lava and maybe some tangled trees and bones as guest stars.
Will be done entirely with ArtRage, which I use for a week, so I will be completely out of my comfort zone.

i will probably use the paint tube, oil brushes and knives, I don't know yet if I will keep the ink pen lines.
    Cheers !

    Brave you!

And... what a strange name for a country - 'Mary'? Oh well *shrug*

I'm really looking forward to this one. I might pick up a few tips

I like the Vauban style of the stronghold

    Thanks
Mouse, brave ? no just fool... and I am afraid you will pick up only big mistakes
fo2dol : Yes Vauban is a great source of inspiration, and a great architect too
Some tests here, I am absolutly not happy with the texture of the stronghold and the ink lines become more and more annoying /(

PS : Oups, I just realized that these textures are very space consuming (5 mb for this ?)

Naw, it's the format. png's can get big. Same file in jpg would be way less. In any case this looks great. In the first thumb I thought it was a 3d model.

Yep - try exporting in jpg. ArtRage does them REALLY tiny - much smaller file size than the same map exported from GIMP. I was looking for compression artefacts, and I honestly couldn't find any. I really don't know how they do it, but ArtRage are the bees knees as far as exporting jpgs goes

Thanks both of you, I just did a jpeg export, thats what I do from Gimp usually (btw I didn't see any compression level setting) and my image is now 1,2m, much better !

No. There's no compression level setting, which adds to the mystique of... 'how on Malacandra did they do that!' I love it

I love this one. I've always liked the old Star fortifications that so many places in Europe had. Great job on this one.
