It looks more like a dwarf to me

If you save the file under a new name, hide the photo layers, then create new layer from visible and delete all the other layers, you should have a new file with only a handful of layers to work on the photos a bit easier. However, I expect you have better things to do in the time there is left

With this latest one, I've been experimenting with bringing text in from Inkscape and making text boxes.

    That's looking really great now

The text boxes always need space around the outside of the words, or the words look cramped

Well done Straff, this map reminds me of the kind of map that a town recreational dept would have made to promote their new walking / biking trails, only better than the ones they would actually have.

    Thanks Mouse

Yeah, I need to add some padding - I'm working this out as I go along I did add some space around the layer but it's obviously not enough. Plus it looks a lot worse when the image is scaled down.

Thanks Bogie. I still have some things to add to it before the end and I'm hoping to settle down to that this evening. I've had quite a lot on this month and so I've had to work quickly on this.

Another little test to see how it looks scaled down and not in GIMP...

    Looking better each time

If Brettenham is a place name for that little village there, might it not look better on the level - like the other place names?

Normally that would be the case but you haven't met anyone from Brettenham have you?

No, but I guess they would be... 'them as prefer to put a slant on life'?

I've got all my little text boxes in place, so now I just have to do the key, the scale and some sort of compass.
