Thread: Map onto a wall?

    Default Map onto a wall?

I have an interesting problem. Hopefully someone can help with some ideas.

My son is renovating his house and wants a map to go onto a wall. It will need to be approx 2000mm x 25000mm. I know that there are a lot of "wall stickers" that are available these days, but we can't find an "off the shelf" map that is suitable. Is it possible to get a map drawn then get it printed onto a medium that can be stuck onto the wall. Maybe a vinyl or similiar material (will need to be "wipeable")

Next question... does anyone here have any experience with this sort of thing? If you have any generic ideas please reply to this post.

We are thinking about an "Old World" style of map, maybe the Spanish Main or something in that genre. Anyone who is interested please PM me.

I know that you can print to vinyl in a certain width to any length as the vinyl is on a roll. Your best bet is to ask your local sign maker as they print to vinyl and then stick it to sheets.

25m is a long length tho. Your aspect ratio is more then 10:1 so its a very thin map your going to need. So I guess it depends on what kind of map your wanting to have. If its a real world map then getting that image is quite easy. If its a fantasy map then your either going to have to scale it up and crop a lot off or get someone to draw you a long thin map.

I am not sure about wipable but I would think vinyl is probably ok. The person on here who has the most experience of all of this is Gamerprinter. See if you can find a post by him and use the private messaging option when you have 5 posts. He runs a print shop and has a vinyl printer - he also makes maps.

My bad with the dimensions. Should have been 2000mm x 2500mm ie 2m x 2.5m

Signmaker might be a good option. There are also several shops who print onto canvas, t-shirts, ceramic mugs etc I was also thinking about contacting them.

You might PM Gamerprinter - he does printing for a living. He might be able to get you a reasonable deal or at least point you in the right direction.
