That looks so much better then the previous one. Very good update !
There are still couple of mountain ranges that looks atrificial. Like north one between Distrek Wynn and Kotu En Ambar. Looks like a basic stroke made with mouse without any variations. If you want to play with them more, the mountain range below Braddi Hern looks the best. If you could make other simillar to that one, would be awesome.

The mountain shading looks very nice. The pure gray land area seems a bit cold and cold and dead stuck between bright gold border elements and saturated blue oceans. I think that exploring a little warmth for the landscape might help a little, especially against the electric blue seas. The gold border is a HSB 45/100/100; using a land color in the range of HSB 45/25/100 (RGB 255/239/191) as the base color that gets modulated by the lighting channels would tie everything together a bit.
It's looking much better, though I do agree with Waldronate that the land could use a little warmth.
Yeah I guess you're right, but I don't think I'll go back to them at this stage. Maybe if I'm exceptionally brave (and have a lot of spare time) somewhere in the future. Which I probably won't have. But hey, it's good to dream, right?
Me too!
That sounds like a wonderful idea Waldronate! But not to worry, I wasn't planning on finishing this map with the standard cold grey. Maybe a gradient map in that colour range you mentioned, maybe a solid colour, I'm not decided yet. I first wanted to get the basics down before I went back to throwing globs of colour at it, that's all. Oh and I'll probably tone down the radiating blue oceans a little bit as well. I'm going step by step here. I already rushed it once, I don't intend to make that mistake twice (well, at least not twice on one map )
Thanks Kacey, but like I wrote above, land colour is definitely coming back!

Thanks Voolf! It's actually two different parchment textures each with its own blending mode and opacity level. Took a bit of tweaking, but I guess it works if you like it
In the meantime I've been working on the most difficult of ornaments: a three-pointed compass. The idea is for the northern point to show the direction of the Crystal Arrow, the local variant of the pole star, albeit a fair bit brighter (to the point that it's even faintly visible during the day), while the southeastern and southwestern points show the approximate locations of summer sunrise and sunset, respectively. It probably has something to do with mythology as well, but I haven't invented that part yet
There's several versions of the compass: deeply embossed vs mostly flat, and sporting golden vs silver measuring rings (with both a flat and an embossed silver variant). I'll post all of them here, but I'll let you know already I'll probably be going for the embossed, all-gold version... unless you guys have some really convincing arguments for one of the other versions!

So, what do you think?

The new ocean colour is very nice, and I really like the compass design, really great job on those!
