If that is the case, then I only have a few things left to do. I have to do the labeling, and get the compass and map key on it, and I plan to do one more thing.

Now since this map is going to be in color, I'm assuming you want the labels to be in color also. But we have to be careful, because bright or bold colors will clash, but pastel pallets won't show up very well against what's already here. Also, you've made no mention of roads. This comes down to personal preference. Since you mostly have only the capitals, I would say that roads aren't needed. Also, do you want the political borders defined? I need to know before I go too much farther.

It is moving slowly but surely: the map is really attractive! So, we want to see more ... I look forward to seeing more

I don't think having borders is necessary. You can get the gist of it from placement of the names of the countries. For labels, I trust your judgement on whatever you think would look best. And yes, I agree about roads. They're not really necessary either.

That's all I needed to hear... I will post my next update as soon as I can get back online again.

I really like every little detail with this map. The one criticism I have is that the overall composition needs to be cleaned up some more to give it a cleaner look. A few lines here and there need to be retouched to improve the overall effect. I know that it's hard to go from extreme detail and have it come out looking great at a farther distance away! Once you do that you'll be in another class of maps, imo. Great work so far!

Well, here is my next update: I'm not sure about the orange ... anyone have any opinions?

I was hoping it would take on a bronze, or copper looking sheen when I added the bevel, but it didn't work out that way. Any suggestions would be great!

I disagree. I was thinking that it DID look like it had taken on a metallic sheen.

I think you need to export the map with about double the antialiasing you're currently using. Say for example you are using only 25%, try 50% (as high as you can go without it crashing I mean). Antialiasing is a bit like exporting it at twice the size and then reducing it in GIMP.

The letters should have a smoother look to them, then, and will look a lot more like bronze or copper.

    Coming on really well, Storm

newest update: not much of a change this time, but hopefully one that will have a much bigger impact - the desert. I went in, and changed the hue and saturation levels of each of my desert sheets, and I like this coloring change a lot more... it now fits much better with the rest of the hues on this map... Still struggling with the text I'm working on, that orange I'm still not sure about, but we shall see...

Every time I see this map, it looks better and better. I love the progress. Sorry I don't have much else to add, I don't really know how to critique a map. I know it's very pleasing to looks at and definitely hits the vibe I'd hoped for.
