Maybe a golden sextant in place of however many golden compasses it ends up representing? Or if you just want color change, make it "ruby" or "emerald". Or... a Golden Compass with a 5 or 10 on it to replace that many compasses, which would make visual obvious that it is not a separate award, but representing multiple compasses.

That's a good idea, rdanhenry. We really will have to wait and see what Robbie and the rest of the CLs say. Sticking my neck out here a bit, but Robbie (our Webmaster) strikes me as an orderly 'calm colours' sort of guy. While I like colourful maps, I think I have to agree with him that colourful maps and colourful avatars are plenty (as in more than enough) bright colours

I really quite like the golden compass with the number on it idea, but that's only my personal 'like'. I don't think a larger symbol is possible.

What about a segment of cheese ?

I have upped it to show up to 18 which is more than the maximum of anyone (15 at the time of writing). But if that is cluttered then maybe have animated GIF style sparkly ones, make them show first and go back down to 6 shown.
