    Wip Tenoctan Empire

A personal project. After playing around with various names I went for an Aztec/Incan flavour. Now I'm thinking about adding some symbols or decoration to improve that theme. Any suggestions?

    Hi Sapiento,

You could add some icons for where some battles have occurred and have the symbol as two crossed swords, but have those swords look like the swords with chips of obsidian used as blades.

You could add a border that looks like it is made of stacked stones, each with a leering skull carved on it.

You could also change the symbols you have for cities and such from geometric shapes and replace them with different looking temples, or temple complexes.

You could have a faded background that is a picture of a jaguar or a leopard. Or have the Jaguar and Leopard wrapping around the corners of the map somehow.

Well, there's my suggestions. I can't wait to see what you actually decide to do. I'm sure it will look fantastic when you are done.

I'd move Potamo label to the other side of the icon so it has less lines underneath it.

To bring out the cultural themes I'd look at some kind of illustrated border telling a mythological story of the civilisation. I'm thinking of the kind of temple carving type stuff. Here's the kind of images I'd think of.

I'm no expert on the subject but that is the kind of thing that would spring to mind for me.

Some pictures of heroes and gods for decoration.
I guess I have to make some edits to the map to fit the new elements.

Really liked the first map, but this is much more fitting stylewise - and lovely illustrations

I agree with tilt; the first map was great, but I like where this is going too

    Thank you!
The first map will not be discarded. My plan is to do an old map and a new one, similar to my Riggerholm maps, past and future.

    I love the first map

The labels in the second map feel a bit too crushed into the line work for my taste, but I'll be following this thread with interest

    Thanks, Mouse.

Next part is to find a good way to depict the forests, here are two ideas.
