You're drawing all this very nicely to a close.

One thing to bear in mind is that using more than 1 or 2 fonts can sometimes make a bit of a mess of a map, so if you do decide to go for a different font for the title, try to make it harmonious with the first - maybe a similar style but slightly more ornate?

I usually use just one font in my own maps unless there is a whole body of text that is many times smaller than the title, and which therefore needs to be legible and readable. For variations I use size differences, bold or italic

Looking forward to seeing how it all comes out

    Thanks, Bogie and Mouse!

It turns out that the font I had selected for my test labels was caps-only. I wanted lowercase in the other labels. I poked around and found one that I liked a lot, and so here we go! Now with towns, rivers, mountains, and islets labeled, I added a layer to highlight the text, and there's a layer of roads. I really like how this is coming along:

    To do (definitely):
    - Add a compass and scale
    - Add some background stuff to the ocean

    Considering:
    - Adding a fancier box around "Isle of Salvayke"
    - Redoing the caterpillar hash marks with about 50% the current spacing and 50% the current length
    - Tweaking the light/shadow layers to add a little more detail

This has definitely been a good learning experience for me - I think it's my best all-digital map yet!

Okay, I now have a version that is complete, for a reasonable definition of completeness. I may do a little more, but I'm happy with it now. (I will also take suggestions for improvement until the deadline!)

I like the font too. The whole map is very nice with a sort of balance to it that feels very comfortable. My only crit is that for the rivers I dont think you need to wrap the text quite so tight to every bend in it. More gentle bends that fits the name along it would have been quite sufficient. I really like it overall.

Thanks for the critique, Redrobes. I adjusted the river label paths a bit to make them more smooth.

Also tweaked the border so that the texture shows through, and labeled some forests.

I keep going back and forth on whether the caterpillars need adjustment. When I'm looking at things zoomed in, I figure I need to add more lines and shorten the existing ones. But when I zoom out, it looks fine. I'm also thinking about if it needs something else around the coastlines.

No on the caterpillar lines. They look great the way they are I think. You get too many will look to thick on the zoomed out one.

Not sure on the coastline. But I really like the map. Good job.

So I'm looking at your map again, and I still like it a lot. The only thing I bothers me a little that I notice right off is the glow on the text and other elements in the ocean. To me it seems a bit strong. Either that, or your water layer is a bit dark. I wonder what would happen if you met somewhere in between? Just a thought.
