Question Tutorials for already made maps

So I've been having a look in the tutorials/How-to forum and they're all really cool, but the problem is all the ones that I've found have the program generate a map for you. I already have a blank map with the terrain borders and I'm happy with it, but I can't get any of the tutorials to work with it. Does anyone know how to get an already made map to work with these?

as i state in the first post
EVERY image is going to be a bit different and the workflow will also be a bit different

this is the basic process i used in making the January contest image from a outline of a image

I would just skip the section of the tutorial that is about creating the base map.
Skip it and go directly to the next section.

You don't have to follow a tutorial step-by-step from start to finish.
No one is going to rap you on the knuckles if you don't.

Personally, I like to read several related tutorials and then take ideas from each one and mash them all together to get... a mess.
Or, take a water and terrain map (gray scale elevation/depth map) and use it with several different tutorials and compare the results.

    basically be creative

there is no real recipe ,except for some basics with the tools used

with flour, water, salt and yeast ( and a few other this and that in the mix ) you can create hundreds of " bread" type things

I could never follow a tutorial in a satisfactory manner.
