Default 10% Cartographer, 80% Cartography Admirer, 10% Annoying

    Greetins' folks!

My online handle is as displayed; Deviston. My name is Jacob and I'm a bit of a cartography enthusiast. What does that mean? Means I look at maps a lot and say "oh that's cool". For the most part that's the extent of what I do with these types of things.

However, over the course of attempting to build a fantasy world, I decided to try my hand at doing the cartography myself. I've learned a little about Photoshop, a little about Illustrator, and a lot about the amount of work that goes into this hobby/profession. Don't get me wrong, it's a lot of fun to learn about, but I think I'll end up leaving the professional work to the... well, the professionals.

Anyhow, glad to be here, glad to check out yall's stuff and see what little tidbits of education I can grab from watching the folks who LOVE this activity in action.

Welcome Jacob and do not hesitate to ask any question you need answered, there'll always be someone passing by with the answer or the path to one.

Oh sure, here are some that I've been fiddling with.
This was the original concept, puuuuuretty awesome I knowwwww. I'm not exactly an art major, but you can see the years and years of practice here I think.

This was the next version after discovering Photoshop and Illustrator

And here is another concept of it attempting to fiddle with a different style.

I like that second one. Its pretty sharp IMHO. Nice work on it. Would be interested in seeing some further development on it when you get a chance.

Yes I like the second one as well

Maybe it would be a good idea to start a proper Work In Progress thread (WIP) in the Regional/World Mapping subforum?

    Welcome to the Guild Jacob!
I agree with the others, the second one already looks really great.
