    Map The World of Maloreth

Here's a world map done for a private tabletop RPG party. I was left much freedom to create this world and it was a blast. The north continent was meant to have a European flavor, the southwest one, south American and the eastern one, Asian. The only other constraint was a small archipelago in the west. As you can see, much freedom. Being able to play with illustrations like the sword was a little treat I gave myself The map was done in photoshop and the original file is twice that size.

Lovely map, Thomas! I really like the colors and the way they gradually change and merge. Beautiful label, and the sword is gorgeous, too! My only gripe would be that too many of the mountains looke like pyramids to me. You should try to have the mountains' bases move out in curved lines.

    I love

Congratulations on the commission - very beautifully drawn. I particularly like the border on this one... I mean quite apart from the rest of the map being as perfect as usual

I agree with Wired. This has an excellent use of color to create great visual appeal. Very captivating overall in terms of details. I dig it.

I have one question. Did you use a premade texture for the ocean? It looks nice.

Fantastic job, sir! The colours just sing. And I agree with Mouse about the border. The pattern too, and the way you use it again in the compass.

Fantastic work Thomas! love the vibrant colours and the somewhat minimalistic terrain fits the world map scale very well.
Yeah, and the sword is epic indeed!

The colors, aspect ratio, sweet sword ... it all comes together to make a sweet map, Thomas.

Great map Thom. I really like the colours of this one.
As for the critique, i would say the rhumb lines and waves are too prominent for my taste.

Thanks Sebastian About the mountains, the scale made it tough to add variation. I'll try to embiggen the file for the next batch when I draw the mountains because you're right, they're a bit geometrical.

Thanks a lot Sue I've already used that frieze but with a golden background. Here, I wanted something more sober (as you can see, my signature Caribbean oceans are not present).

Thanks a lot Aera. I use the same parchment background for most of my maps and add colors and shades in overlay, color burn and multiply modes. The texture comes from that parchment that I found on DA I think ...

Thanks Brian ! At first, I decided to match the color of the frame with the rose and from there, the pattern was mandatory

Thanks Martin I've been wanting to add illustrations like this one for a long time. I'm cooking a little dragon for an upcoming map, we'll see if I'm consistent in quality.

Thanks John ! I've got a long way to go to match your marvelous blades but I'll work hard.

Thanks Rafal About the rhumbs, I used an overlay layer toned down to 60 % opacity, maybe with thinner lines ... For the waves, I wanted to try a technique Wired seems to use and I added an outer glow to them and you are right, they're a bit too much.

Of course they are not bad and experimenting with new things is a key to success.
