Oh my!
Deep and meaningful stuff, and its only a Tuesday!
I think I prefer the caterpillars as well, but you're asking a question that's really down to personal preference
Thanks Tenia - the caterpillar style is difficult. It's the little hairs that take a lot of time and a lot of care to do. If I try to go quickly I make a proper mess of them. Like finger picking a guitar or banjo I have to start of slowly until I get the muscle memory. If I do that I won't get the challenge finished before August
Thanks. They are a bit lop-sided aren't they?
Yeah I certainly need to increase the slopeyness on the light side. Otherwise the dark side will dominate. Dark side domination leads to misery. Misery leads to suffering. Suffering leads to anger. Anger leads to extreme decisions and before we know it we're all doing psychedelic maps with rivers running amok and defying gravity. Then where would we be? We'd never know because all of the maps are far too abstract to read.

Very good job ! I like this kind of mountains ! I'm looking forward to see all of them, I bet the effect will be very powerful !!
It's a nightmare Tenia. I've spent so much time on the things.
I've marked out the different territories with colour. About the mountains - I found some brushes that I found in this thread. Since then I've found another set here which I might try. Anyway I've applied the first set to produce the mountains in the left part of the map. In the right part I've applied a different approach - using a grunge brush and applying an emboss. Which is the better option? What I haven't tried is the shade/highlight approach that was in the previous map with the coloured territories.

I immediately prefer the ones in the pink area to the west.
I think the colours might be a bit strong - particularly the green. Maybe experiment and see just how faint you can make them and the division still be clear?

I also prefer the mountain style in the pink region, though the peaks in the middle range seem too similar to each other. Certainly looks like a lot of detailed work.
I am partial to the mountains on the right with the grunge bush, though maybe some more contrast for depth. Any way you decide though it will look more unified and finished once the mountains are all in and the same style.
I've gone with the caterpillary ones simply because I had more of that done. I can always revisit towards the end of the challenge if there's time.
That's what I've been busy with this evening, plus doing a little bit of tidying. I think I might be getting close to the labelling stage. Then I can think about what's going around the border.

That looks a lot better
Not sure if you really need a coloured border line as well as colour shading... but I can't really see it without the border. I can only imagine that it would look sort of 'cleaner' without all those doubled up lines where the borders meet each other and the coast.
