This is stunning. It feels like it could be from a Miyazaki movie or a sketch for a live action summer blockbuster.
Hey All,
Another B/W map I finished up for Frank Morin, the same client who commissioned the Map of Southern Granadure.
This "map" is much more illustrative and is meant to give the reader a visual image of the what the pass looks like in the story. As such it is not really a map per-se' but serves the same purpose. In this one, the Pass was described as a tall mountain cloven in two by an axe. Two rival countries have established fortifications on either side of the gate and semi-permanent military camps to provide defenders and/or raiders into the others territories. I love doing little military brigades of troops, and so this was no exception
Had alot of fun with this one, and it continues in my trend of incorporating more inking/drawing into my pro work. I am always worried about using too much black in a piece, but I have found it's really all about balance and decision making.

Holy hell! This is one of those maps that reads almost more as a picture than a map, and it is awesome. I really like the inky style you have going on. Yet another beauty to add to your collection, well done!
Excellent work!
This is amazing! I already loved the Badurach Pass on the Map of Southern Granadure and on this picture it is even more stunning as I imagined it. Looking at the picture really fires my imagination. I'm wondering if it was a god who cleft the mountain, if someone will be able to get through the gates, if the cliffs will play a role in the novel and so on ...
Extremely impressive.
Epic is the word
Thanks everyone for the kind words and comments
