April 2018 Mapping Challenge: Dorthone, The Dominion of Pain

Hello everyone! Wasn't sure about entering the challenge, but then I got this badass name playing with the realm stats. I changed the Population Density to "Desolate" 'cause being an amateur is hard enough.

Dorthone is an "otherworldly" Dominion, inhabited by a race that delights in suffering, physical and spiritual, and that harvest their subjects from other planes.
I'll flesh it out later, but obvious inspirations are Hellraiser and Dark City.

Oh, nice one! Would love to see someone map out a version of Pinhead's home plane...

WIP so far. Base colours plus profiled mountains.

The castles, roads and terrain features are all there, under the paint, though I think you can't see them for the moment.

I've never done a red sea!

The cruel Dorthoneans, heirs of the failed First Kingdom of Dorthone, are a slaver society native to the Plane of Ash. As the soulless creatures they are, they need to eat and drink the distilled essence produced from the life-force of their victims, which explains the proximity of their major cities to the Gate of Two Worlds, the portal from where they pillage and kidnap inhabitants from other dimensions.
A group of escaped slaves have had a minor rebellion for centuries in the Warm-Blood Peninsula, trying to escape the Plane of Ash, though they seem condemned to defeat.
