    Map Mysterious Crypt [Commission]

    Hi!

This was a fun one and much more suited to me. The client wanted a crypt that was old and unused, but with a twist. A barrier that blocks the entrance to the main sarcophagus.

I wanted to give the walls a feeling of inlaid arcane power and so went with the look I have here. The moss came out nicely and with the shadow layer above it, gave the effect that it was climbing down the stairs and onto the one sarcophagus.

Anyway, this was a bit more up my alley. I like playing with finer details.

Here are three versions of it.

    Final version. Barrier with Grid

    Barrier without Grid

    Hi XCali,

Great map, though a little dark for my taste. I really like the finer details; the glyphs, the etching on the sarcophagi are superb.

Great crypt map XCali, I really like the floor texture and the sarcophagi are excellent.

Hehe, yeah, I think going for the whole dark and foreboding look was a given with this one. Also, thank you. The glyphs I ended up using a low level emboss and then quite a few colorizing and hue filters to get it to where it was. The etchings on the main hall sarcophagi are a flat image of sword and a just plain black flat image for that symbol with a mulitply or overlay mode, I think, and a low level emboss. It came out just the way I wanted it.
    Anyway, thanks.

Ah! Bogie! Thanks. That means a lot coming from you, really. Your objects for maps really inspire.
The floor texture was just a free hand painted texture I threw in, though I wanted a grungier effect with it, so then ON TOP of it, I added a rough texture and I think the mode was(I merged the layers, so I can't remember the exact sequence.) grain merge. It created the effect.
For the sarcophagi, as above, but used some highlights and core plus cast shadows to get them to pop out more. The main one I used a pencil drawn object I created for the Darkwood Harbour map, and just popped it on top and added Highlights and core plus cast shadows to create the effect of it standing out on the stone slab.
