Australia - in the style of 17th century maps

Wow that is lovely! I always wanted to make one in this sort of style. This came out wonderfully, way to go! I really like how the deeper color borders came out.

It's brilliant! I love everything about it, and I think you're ink troubles just add to the character of this map. I can't even count how many hours I've spent trying to get my computer to bleed ink this well… Great job!

I love the look and that you did this by hand on paper, but the compass rose is really wrong. The map is not bearing preserving so it shouldn't have a compass rose. I'm not sure precisely which projection you used, but it's clearly not Mercator which is the only projection which could give a bearing preserving map over this extent. There's no way you could have both bearing preserving and consistent linear scale (compass rose and scale bar) for a map with this extent.
