A lovely map and a great gift, Aeshnidae. I especially love the border here.
It's always special to work on wedding-related commissions !
My completed map of Fillory, the Narnia-esque world-within-a-world from Lev Grossman’s The Magicians series. This was done as a commission so I’ve had to keep it hidden until my client gave it as a wedding gift (I printed it on canvas for her), thus no WIP thread. I had some fun with the copyright info, since Fillory is the creation of a fictional author within the series. I haven’t read the books (yet) so I relied on the map available on Grossman’s website but added my own touches. I did a lot of Googling to figure out which doodads to add, like the buttons, rabbits, and moth.
This was hand-drawn and colored in Photoshop on a Wacom Intuos tablet. The font is Enchanted Land. I'm particularly happy with how the fabric underneath the magical buttons turned out, since I still feel like I struggle with drawing "real" things.

Ah! This is what you've been up to.
Congrats on the commission.
It has a dreamy feel to it. Really nice.

I've been watching that show on Amazon Prime, thinking I would despise it for various reasons, but have been totally hooked.
That is a pretty cool wedding gift I hope they liked it
Thanks! I actually did the border for this map first (because I wanted it to look like the Narnia border from my childhood books) and then ported it over to use on my Camelot map. And a map of Ireland that I made for my mom's 70th birthday, which I will post once I give it to her. (We're not even the tiniest bit Irish but she has a book of Irish fairy & folk tales from when she was a little girl, and she loves it.)
I was really happy to work on a wedding gift! Apparently the whole wedding party bonded over The Magicians.
Thanks, XCali! This is sadly just a tiny, enjoyable piece of what I've been up to lately. What's kept me super duper busy is lawyering. Which I enjoy, but not when it's 70+ hours per week on a state employee salary!
Thanks, Voolf! It was my first "real" commission, for a client I don't know rather than for friends or acquaintances.
Apparently the bride and groom loved it! I didn't realize the show is available on Amazon. Now I'm torn...read the books first, or watch the show first? Usually I read the books first but Amazon knows me far too well and has tempted me with many Kindle books available for $2 or less, so I have a significant number of unread books sitting on my Kindle.
Very pretty, congrat on commission !
Very nice work. I love those books!
