Default World of Heimurinn commission by Jaxilon

Alright, this is a HUGE map so this is 50% reduced and quality cut from 12 to 8 in order to get it small enough to post.

I've dragged my feet posting this because I wanted to do a video of the steps as it happened. Maybe if there is enough interest I can be motivated to do it, I do have a lot of WIP images.
I'm posting to get it off my todo list.

I included a few 100% snaps to show the zoomed detail of the full map.

The client had a ton of history for his game world and the illustrations represent specific elements and beings of his world. The desert for instance was the result of a war where one side eventually dammed up the water source (see Dammborg) to crush their enemy. The mother tree was also a key feature as it played a huge part in the campaign he was running because the Dwarves of Kror's keep had done such extensive mining in Dwarf's Maw they were poisoning the nearby ocean and the pollution was starting to effect the tree. Anyway, if you need more he'll have to come tell, I'm just the cartographer, speaking of which...

His group loved having the map and he created an NPC Cartographer named Jaxilon Rivengard (totally awesome!) who traveled the world in a hot air dirigible along with his trusty gnome companion.
Whenever they saw him in the distance I guess they wanted to catch him. Of course, one of his primary traits was his ability to run away so he could keep making maps of the known world.

The client ended up printing out full size copies and giving them to his party before moving to the other side of the country and personally I think that was a pretty awesome going away gift. I think they play now using VTT.

edit: I created a split version left/right so anyone interested can see the full version.

Well, that is one huge map all right. And a nice looking one too! I like the heavy texturing and the vibrant colors, and the cities in particular look amazing! Great job.

Great work. Love the textured feel of it.

Thanks guys for the nice comments, I appreciate them.

The client was and is very happy so that's the most important thing.

@Kellerica the cities are unique and I probably spent more time than necessary doing them that way but it's cool you noticed. The major ones have a story behind them so they are bit more done up but they are more visible in the full resolution version or in one of the snapshots included.

This is a great piece Jax! Until now I had only seen small thumbnails of this map on my phone. Now I can finally see it properly and it looks amazing! I love how you did the towns and cities

Nice one, Jax ! It has a something of a mix of painterly and video game styles that is really pleasant to the eye.

Thanks Daniel. I do like doing the cities that way but it does take bit more time. I like how they look different from one another in the end tho. It is the largest map I've made to date.

Thanks Thomas. I haven't figured out a way to make this style particularly fast. I think I could use another style and create more quickly but I like painting.

Thank you for such nice comparisons. I kind of wanted to work on the Sea more but the client liked it this way.

Great job on this. I really love the use of a rougher texture
