Still, this is turning into a lovely piece.
Thanks Jaxilon, seems I have some competition now!

A bit of an update here. I'm going to have to get a move on as there are the usual endless family commitments around this time of the year...

Loads of trees to paint, loads of roofs to paint, text still to do.

...and I'm really not sold on the border at all, but will probably not have enough time to draw something nice, so it may have to either do as it is, or go without a significant border...

I have to confess I'm not completely sold on the colour of the river. It's beautifully illustrated, with the rocks and banking, but the blue colour is sooo dominant to me. Perhaps once the trees are fully coloured there will be something to contrast with it, but I feel it rather overwhelms everything else at the moment. But that aside, this is looking fantastic! I really like what you have here.

I completely agree with you ChickPea. I think it will probably be a lot lighter in the final version, but I dont think there's much point tinkering with colours until everything that it's going to contrast with is done.

Right, got a lot more colouring done today - the building shading is just to see what it looks like - it will be re-done from scratch. There is a small group of about half a dozen trees to the Noth of the road as it heads out of town to the West. This is what I plan to try to do with all of them. Lots of work to do!!!

Another update, forests substantially done - mainly just shading and labels to do.

What do you all think of the colours - do they need to be toned down a bit??? ...a lot???

On the one hand, I do like the very bold colors! On the other hand, it looks more spring than December. Great map either way!

Thanks Aeshnidae, I'm really not sure with it either. Growing up in the Southern hemisphere December was always early Summer which is what I was going for...

Time is really running extremely short now. I'm away with the family from tomorrow until the 29th, then have my mum's birthday to deal with as well as looking after the (small) kids because the wife is working from then until new year. I may have to risk taking my laptop with me next week...
