Reminds me of something like command and conquer. Good job so far.
Thanks D, a bit more work on colour - I think it's just getting a key and tidying up a bit and then tis one is done...

I think the mountain highlight areas stand out a bit too much in this newest version. The previous looked better in that regard. The ocean grid is a nice touch!
I like the detail of the landmass fading out in the are out of the main frame. lovely detail
I Agree with Kellerica about the mountains. But I also understand this is snow now.
By my side I got some difficulties to read the locations
Thanks everyone - mountains returned to how tey were before - and I haev added a drop shadow to the text to make it a bit more readable.
Any preferances for the two options below - not sure about colour saturation...

The shadow on the text helps a lot! While I think the saturated version has a better contrast to it, I think for this setting the more muted look of the non-saturated one may work better... Not entirely sure.
I like the version with the more muted colors.
I like the saturated version a bit better in general, but the muted version looks more dystopian so I think that's a better choice for the challenge. I don't think you can go wrong, though. The texture is especially nice.
I'll weigh in on the side of the more saturated colors.
The brighter greens help emphasize the burned out wasteland effect.
(Although, you could tone down the text - it's a little too bright on my monitor.)
