The Straits of Qalîmbar

Hey all! So the first map for my commission series is now done, and client needs a little time to work out the details for the first continental map, so while I wait, I can continue work on this little map!

The past few hours I started drawing in human settlement icons. They're not as minimalist as what you usually see, but still nowhere near realistic of course. Do these work for you? Or do you prefer the typical more stylised ones instead?

Happy to see you back on this! It’s nothing short of amazing.

Regarding the settlement icons I was hesitant at first, but I actually like them a lot with that bold outline, gives a very unique feeling to an already unique map. You might take one more look at the shadow and highlights however, there is some inconsistency.

I think I'd actually have the settlements look less stylised, to blend in more with the style of the landscape. But that may be just me. Otherwise I think this is fantastic.

I love the settlements as is. They complement the map perfectly, at least in my opinion.

Also, I hate you a little bit right now. This thing is gorgeous. You're now officially on my "brain must be eaten" list.

The settlements are just great ! And the more I look at it, the more I love the way you played with colours, on this one (on top of the whole concept, which is just fantastic !)

Oh geez, you guys are just too kind! And a bit scary too (I'm looking at you, Diamond I'm gonna start wearing that zombie proof helmet that's been lying in my closet, just to be sure!)

Also, I threw in a bunch more tiny towns and landmarks, and I'm now mostly finished with the map itself. Next step is now everything that's around it: labelling, a minimap, a title, that sorta stuff. Still got a lot to do, but this is a load of fun so I don't complain!
