I like the darker sea coloring better, but it does tend to blend with some of the region colors. So all in all, I think the lighter one looks best.

    You are right Gidde,

the darker blue of the sea makes it harder to differentiate between land and water in the area of the territories also marked in blue. Maybee a colouring scheme between the brighter and the darker would work

I didn't want to suggest changing the whole scheme! But I think that (the in-between idea) may be a fantastic idea.

I like the lighter one better.
The land/sea/feature colors are balanced and harmonious.

In the darker one, the sea color dominates the map and obscures the features.

You could increase the intensity/saturation of the other colors to bring them back into balance,
but I'm not sure it would improve the readability of the map.

I'll vote for the lighter coloring, too. It looks less busy, somehow.

Is it supposed to be "Straight of Phyr" rather than "Street of Phyr"? And there are a couple of other 'streets' listed there.

You have the names of a few real tribes/nations (Parthians, Skythians [sic], Phrygians, etc.) mixed with what I assume are fictional ones. Is that intentional?

I like the lighter sea all-around. It isn't just better contrast with the blue lands. The marking on the sea (what I take to be sea-routes and, well, I'm not sure about the circular pink... radius within which a great lighthouse can be seen? Agreed reach of authority on the sea from a great city?) look much better with the lighter sea, but clearer to read and prettier. It also creates a better balance of land and sea.

    Well acrosome,

you´re right with the streets/straights. That´s due to my linguistic deficits, I guess. So thanks for that. It´s showing, that you looked close to the map

It´s the same with the tribe´s names. In Germany we say "Parther", "Phrygier" and "Skythen" and I would adopt it into "new" german term "Parthianer", "Phrygianer" and "Skythianer" in order not to use the real names but similar adopted versions of it. but the translation into English restored the names (partly) originally used in English and denied my German transformation. This is quite sad but I will fix this later

@ rdanhenry: I agree with you concerning the colours. In fact the red (or pink) circles represent the range of the naval fleets from the major naval ports: with the inner darker circle representing the range of a day's journey, and the larger, lighter one the range of a two-day trip. This will later be clarified by the legend in the lower left corner of the map
