    Default The Village of Mannhal

Hey all! I'm clearing a pile of maps that I haven't posted here yet. This is another one that I did for my Patreon.

And as always, a bit of background to go with it

The Village of Mannhal is built on the remains of a military outpost, a remnant of a conflict between the two clans of Garvann and Thalla.

Warriors of Garvann made camp on a small hill, building makeshift defences and a small watchtower. Throughout the conflict the outpost was used multiple times by both sides. After the conflict, a small garrison of Garvann troops remained to guard the area, but over time they abandoned the outpost.

Now, the outpost is no longer of military importance and it has been abandoned for years. The defences however, were left as they were. A small fishing community took advantage of it and built their homes on the hill. This was the origin on the village of Mannhal.

The old general's hut was turned into the meeting place for the townsfolk. It is were they gather and talk about whatever needs to be discussed. It is also where the town elder lives. It is currently inhabited by Gyrald Styg, an old man, but still stronger and sturdier than most people you'll come across. He has a no-nonsense attitude and is straightforward in every situation. On top of that he is a very stubborn man.

Anyone that comes from outside of the community is welcomed with a sceptic frown and brought before Gyrald, questioned about their reasons for passing through. The people of Mannhal tend to look out for themselves and like to keep it that way.

This has caused a lot of tension between the Village of Manhall and surrounding towns. People often need to travel through Mannhal when traveling between the towns of Kalstør and Watvalla. Gyralds behaviour has gone as far as to significantly damage trading between the towns. While Watvalla is able to seek trading partners elsewhere, Kalstør is much more isolated, and relies on the trade with Watvalla. The Lord of Kalstør has gone as far as to threaten to send a band of warriors to Mannhal to 'teach this old man a lesson'.

When the people of Mannhal settled here, they used the old defences as protection against potential threats, such as wolfs, bears and drakes. Before too long, these defences may well be used to fend of enemy forces, just as they once did...

As always, let me know what you think!

Heh, that's a really cute one The muted colors work very well for this kind of theme. The grid is just sublte enough so it's visible but not overpowering. I think for a map this small, the legend box might be a bit unnecessary, for this few labels they probably would have fitted on the map itself... But that is really nitpicking. Nice work all and all!

I like that you've been doing several maps around a specific theme or region. I've been trying to do that too. Also can't rep you for this one as the forums won't let me. =P

Nice little village indeed. I agree with QED42 and Larb, it's fun to see you continuing to build upon a unifying theme.

    Cheers,

Thank you Kell! I guess the legend is a bit unnecessary, and the map could probably have done without any labels at all. Oh well, that's something to keep in mind for next time!

Thanks Larb! I like doing these themes. It's part of a worldbuilding project and every theme represents an area in that world. So when everything is done it'll be an entire world with countless maps.
